A recent news item made me to be in great distress for a whole week and I am still unable to come out from the shock and grief. The news of the murder of a four -year -old baby in Hoogly(West Bengal) by her own father filled my eyes with tears and I wept uncontrollably for few seconds.
Anita, wife of Harishanker Agarwal, a businessman from Hoogly left him and went to her parents house when she was in an advanced stage of pregnancy (of her second child) after accusing him of torture. There, she gave birth to her younger daughter. About two-and half months ago, Harishanker went to his in-laws house, apologised and brought his wife and kids back.
But he had developed hatred for his four –year –old daughter and started torturing her on the suspicion that she was not sired by him. He used to keep the kid in a storeroom while he, his wife and their seven –year-old elder daughter sleep in the bed room. The devil allegedly killed the child on 28th Nov. in a fit of rage when she insisted on sleeping with her parents.
I am unable to understand how a mother tolerated the torture meted out to her four-year-old daughter by the father of the child itself. What made a mother to sleep in bedroom while her young child was tortured to sleep in a store room?
I have recently come across a picture, where a monkey fought hard with a dog to save its kid which was knocked by a speeding vehicle. When animals have the responsibility of protecting their young ones, why some human beings behave like a cruel devil?
